The College of Engineering at Chonnam National University(CECNU), with more than 70 years of tradition, endeavors to develop core technologies and foster future leaders to contribute to the development of the local community as well as the entire nation. Its motto is to the Technology, to the World, to the Future. The 21st Century, what is called, is a knowledge-based era demanding elite engineering and technology talent who have the ability to acquire, utilize, and recreate that knowledge. It is the main goal to foster the future-oriented leaders who have profound knowledge in professional fields.
CECNU has approximately 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 174 professors, and 44 professional staff members. The students devote themselves to the pursuit of truth and the professors themselves to teaching and research. A network of 35,000 alumni worldwide is ready to help them. CECNU is currently organized into 5 schools and 9 departments in the Undergraduate Program, and 14 departments in the Graduate Program. It also has a Graduate School of Industry and Technology with 14 departments. CECNU works to ensure academic competition by obtaining accreditation from the ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea).
CECNU makes an effort to enhance competitiveness in education and research and to activate its industrial-university cooperation system by operating 4 education and research-support institutes, 15 research centers, 34 external cooperation centers as well as other project teams. The total amount of research funds that CECNU professors were rewarded exceeded approximately US$40 million in 2021, enlisting the university as one of the nation's top research universities. Recently, it has been thriving on projects of education, research, and industry-university cooperation by successfully inviting government-funded large scale projects such as Second Stage Brain Korea (BK) 21 Project, and Robot Research Initiative(RRI) Projects, and Green Energy Technology(GET)-Future Projects, and Leaders in INdustry-university Cooperation(LINC) Projects . By doing so, CECNU has made great contributions to strengthening the national science base and enhancing the national capacity to develop core technologies. We have formed an ever increasing overseas network through the establishment of partnerships with 121 renowned universities of 26 countries. Finally, CECNU promotes internationalization through dispatching faculty members and students overseas, holding international symposiums and inviting world-renowned scholars to lecture at the university.
Everyone at CNU knows that now is time to take another step towards the future. We need to meet the demands of the times and reestablish our reputation as a distinguished engineering college, to create unique values of its own, and to maintain its dignity with self-confidence, enthusiasm, and creativity.
